Plans to transform Tottenham Hale
Wednesday 22 July 2009
New homes, businesses and open space are planned as the multi-million pound transformation of Tottenham Hale continues.
Work is already underway at Hale Village, while funding has been secured to improve access by changing the existing gyratory to two-way traffic flow and to improve the bus interchange at Tottenham Hale station.
Haringey Council's cabinet last night agreed to explore options for the regeneration of the Greater Ashley Road area close to Tottenham Hale station.
Up to 1,600 homes and 30,000 square metres of new retail and office space could be built at the site.
Community facilities, open space and public transport links will also be improved.
The Council has pledged to maintain existing levels of open space, by expanding Down Lane Park if there is to be development on the area of land closest to the station.
Residents will be consulted in September and their opinions will help to shape a detailed delivery plan for the area.
Council leader Claire Kober said:
"The proposals for Greater Ashley Road mark the start of the next stage in the regeneration of Tottenham Hale.
"Physical and effective regeneration of our area is about delivering real benefits to all Haringey residents.
"Tottenham Hale is at the very heart of the Council's regeneration plans and we are very excited about the potential for the area."
