Dear resident,
There’s great news on recycling this month. The latest figures show that we have now hit record recycling rates in Haringey, with approximately a quarter of all domestic waste being recycled or composted.
Thanks to your efforts, we are pushing ahead with our ambition for Haringey to become the greenest borough in London, and it’s hard to believe that recycling rates were down in the low single figures just six years ago.
We now have extra garden waste and mixed doorstep recycling collections on offer, and we are making life easier for many residents by moving recycling and refuse collections to the same day of the week.
You can read all about this in May's Better Haringey feature and you can also find out more at our first ever Better Haringey Green Fair on 30 June at Ally Pally, with family entertainment plus all you need to know about caring for the environment.
The new laws banning smoking in public places, which come into force on 1 July, will also improve the environment. They affect all businesses, so our Count down to a smoke free Haringey article gives a reminder of what companies need to do before the deadline.
Finally, if youngsters are tempted to miss school in the warmer weather, be warned! Skipping school has a real impact on your future prospects, and our truancy patrols will be out and about across the borough through the summer term.

Leader, Haringey Council
