Dear resident,
Plans are now being finalised for the council’s first-ever Better Haringey Green Fair, on 30 June at Ally Pally, part of our drive to become the greenest borough in London.
It will be a great day out for all, with fun events for everyone, special guest Brigit Strawbridge and the chance to find out how you can help improve the environment and tackle the problems of climate change. See our Green Fair feature for details.
Following the annual meeting of the council last month we have a new Cabinet – the new name for the Executive – taking the big decisions and making sure that we keep our promises on services and deliver value for money.
One way we ensure value for money is by planning ahead, as with our road and transport improvement programme where we will be spending record amounts in the coming year on everything from resurfacing to new streetlights.
I’m delighted that Haringey was voted the most improved transport borough in London last month – more independent proof that we are making our borough a better place.
Finally, this month sees National Carers Week, and we should all pay tribute to those in our communities who take care of others. See our Carers - unsung heroes in our community feature for more details of the support the council gives to carers.
Cllr George Meehan,
Leader, Haringey Council
