Dear resident,

Last month we were wishing our young people well for their GCSE and A Levels, and this month I’m delighted to congratulate them on our best ever set of results. Congratulations must also go to our teachers, and of course to the parents and carers who have supported our youngsters, sometimes in difficult circumstances.

Education is vital for our future, as individuals and as a community, and the council is determined that our schools will continue to improve the life chances of all our young people. Read our Excelling in education article to find out more.

Our future also depends on the actions we take now to protect the environment. We can all do our bit, and one way is to take up our “zero waste challenge” next month, and see just how much you can cut down on what you throw away. See the Be a waste watcher article information on how to sign up, plus tips on waste reduction.

Finally, we all know there are many good things about our borough, from Highgate Wood and Ally Pally to the shopping on Green Lanes and the vibrancy of Tottenham. Now we want to know why you think Haringey is the place to be. Tell us what you think and you could win a free week-long leisure centre pass and £50 shopping vouchers. You can tell us online at: www.haringey.gov.uk/greatplace.
