Hornsey resident wins direct debit competition
Thursday 2 July 2009
Hornsey resident Simon Assender has won a Haringey Council competition to encourage more people to pay their council tax by direct debit.
Mr Assender, from Ribblesdale Road, was presented with a £250 voucher for The Mall shopping centre by Cllr Bob Harris, cabinet member for resources.
Council tax payers who set up direct debits for the first time this year as well as those taxpayers who had already opted to pay by this method were automatically entered into a draw.
Cllr Harris said:
“Direct debit offers value for money for everyone – it guarantees we receive income on a regular basis and means that we don’t have to pursue people for unpaid bills. We are also able to offer a choice of two payment dates, either the 1st or 15th of each month.
“It offers local taxpayers value for money as it helps keep our administration costs down, which means more money is available for the services we all need."
More competitions for residents who pay by direct debit will be run later in the year.
