Youth services welcome Turkish delegation
Thursday 4 February 2010
Turkish Government officials will be in Haringey next week to learn about the council's work with young people.
The group from Turkey’s Ministry of Youth and Sport will be visiting Bruce Grove Youth Centre, Haringey Sixth Form College and meeting the Youth Council. They will also be learning about local services like the youth inclusion programme, the youth response team and the youth counselling service.
The visitors are particularly keen to learn how Haringey Council engages young people through participation.
Cllr Lorna Reith, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said:
“We are delighted to welcome this delegation from Istanbul and are keen to show them the fantastic local services available for young people in Haringey.
“We work closely with young people to make sure we are offering the services they need and want, so it is good to be able to share our experiences internationally.”
The visit has been organised by the British Council as part of the Comenius Regio Workforce Development exchange programme. The programme is designed to develop partnership working between education authorities across Europe.
The delegation will be touring the borough on Tuesday 9 February.
