Travel smarter this weekend

Publication date: Wednesday 1 February 2012

Make a smoothie from the pedal power of a bicycle and get your bike serviced for free when you attend the community Smarter Travel Roadshow in Wood Green this weekend.

The Smarter Travel Team stall will be outside the Vue Cinema on Friday 3 to Sunday 5 February from 10am to 4pm - offering people advice and information on how to choose smarter travel options.

Cllr Nilgun Canver, Cabinet Member for the Environment, said:

We are trying to encourage people to ditch the car when they can and use more sustainable forms of transport such as cycling, walking or public transport. This will improve fitness and help reduce pollution. We are improving facilities and routes for cyclists in the borough and have mapped out interesting walks taking people to key areas.

We also want to encourage families to walk their children to school to reduce the 'school run' congestion and to give children a healthy start to the day.

The Smarter Travel stall will include a range of information to take away such as:

  • walk and cycle maps
  • where to get discounts on new bikes and accessories
  • how to get child or adult cycle confidence training

In addition, on Saturday and Sunday only, there will be a free cycle security marking service to deter would-be cycle thieves.
