Traffic delays during torch relay day - 25 July

Publication date: Wednesday 18 July 2012

Expect severe delays in road transport on 25 July as the Torch Relay comes to North London and reaches Tottenham during the evening rush hour.

Traffic disruption will begin early in the day when the relay travels through Harrow, Brent, Barnet and Enfield before arriving in Haringey.

The Torch Relay route then takes in Tottenham High Road, Lordship Lane, Wood Green High Road, Hornsey High Street and Priory Road, all of which will have at least one lane of traffic closed or traffic slowed down. It will then travel up Alexandra Palace Way which will be closed to traffic, including the W3 bus, all day.

Haringey Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Social Inclusion, Cllr Alan Strickland, says:

“It will be fantastic to see the Olympic Flame coming through Haringey but it will mean road traffic is disrupted and anyone trying to get to an airport for their holidays or heading for a timed appointment is advised to take this into account when planning travel.

“Even where traffic is moving it is likely to be very slow around the Torch Relay routes. Bus services coming in from central London may be curtailed at certain points, such as Turnpike Lane, and will take some time to get back to a normal service. So plan ahead; if you have an important appointment leave in good time and keep checking for travel updates.”
