Tottenham's BIG weekend - 28-30 September 2012

Preparations are in full swing for a fun-packed weekend for Tottenham – with the first ever Project Tottenham film festival and a trial Medley Market.

The festivities over the final weekend of September are part of Haringey Council’s 12 in 2012 pledges to deliver improvements and activities to Tottenham throughout the year.

Kicking off the action will be film showcase Project Tottenham, with feature screenings, events and film-related activities across a host of local venues.

Highlights include films shot in Haringey and made by local groups, including a team from Tottenham Hale’s Living Under One Sun allotments project, which was awarded a Film London grant to help get its work on to the big screen.

With film fans flocking to Tottenham, the weekend will be made even more exciting thanks to the first ever Medley Market at Tottenham Green East.

The one-day market, launched in response to calls from local residents, will play host to a variety of stalls, many manned by local businesses and residents. Priority has been given to stalls that offer the best products to meet Tottenham’s local needs.

Cllr Alan Strickland, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Social Inclusion, said:

"Bringing together Project London and the first ever Tottenham Medley Market means a truly unique and exciting weekend is on the cards for Tottenham.

"This is a chance for local people to celebrate their neighbourhood and for visitors to find out more about the very best that Tottenham has to offer – from talented film makers to creative market traders.

"It also offers people the chance to visit venues they may otherwise pass by and to learn more about some of the different community groups that make Tottenham so special."

Medley Market stallholders have been able to take up stalls at a discounted rate thanks to backing from sponsors including Veolia Environmental Services; Volker Highways; Building Depot and Tesco. The council has arranged the event in partnership with MAKE-ROOM and the College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London.

• The Medley market will be held on Saturday 29 September - from 11.30am to 5pm
