Tottenham all set for summer parade
Publication date: Friday 22 June 2012
A colourful carnival parade will wind through Tottenham this weekend, bringing a festival buzz and kicking off a fantastic summer of events.
However, organisers have cancelled Saturday’s carnival party at Bruce Castle Park due to difficulties raising sponsorship.
The Tottenham Carnival Parade will go ahead and will set out from Eade Road at 11am on Saturday 23 June, travelling along Seven Sisters Road, Tottenham High Road and Bruce Grove to Bruce Castle Park, where festivities will draw to a close at around 1pm.
Cllr Alan Strickland, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Social Inclusion, said:
“We know that the Tottenham Carnival is a big event for many local residents and we have been very supportive of the plans, including making a generous contribution towards running costs.
“Unfortunately, the organisers were unable to raise enough money through other sponsorship to make the event in Bruce Castle Park possible, but I’m pleased that the parade will go ahead.
“We’re looking forward to a great festival atmosphere for the parade and hope that hundreds of local residents will join in the fun.
“Tottenham has a great summer of events to look forward to, with Olympics themed sports and arts activities; the Olympic Torch Relay and Bruce Castle Festival; the north London Architectural festival at Tottenham Green, and a packed programme of activities for children, young people and families all summer long - from football lessons to film workshops and DJ-ing to summer camps.”
Some temporary traffic management orders displayed around Bruce Castle Park are being removed, although those in Church Lane and All Hallows Road will remain to help the parade pass through. We apologise for any inconvenience caused to residents.
