Science Week lessons were out of this world
Publication date: Friday 19 March 2010
Children at a Haringey school learnt all about space this week - even in their PE and art lessons.
Alexandra Park School in Bidwell Gardens is one of 30 space specialist schools in the country and is also a specialist science school, so it organised a whole host of activities for National Science and Engineering Week.
Children made paper aeroplanes and learnt the science behind a good flight, listening to talks from the National School Astronomer, Dr Paul Roche, and learning about the stars in Europe’s largest inflatable planetarium.
Alexandra Park headteacher Michael McKenzie said:
“Science is such an exciting subject, but it doesn’t have to be restricted to the science lab.
“During National Science and Engineering Week, we gave our students an opportunity to learn more about space and flight in a range of interesting and unusual ways. Hopefully we have inspired our young people to be the scientists of the future.”
Students from Alexandra Park were joined by Rhodes Avenue Primary School pupils for some activities.
