Sing London events in Haringey libraries

Wednesday 6 June 2007

If you thought you couldn't sing... think again!

July sees two workshops in Haringey libraries specially designed for people convinced they can't sing, plus a slam poetry workshop for teenagers.

Anyone who's ever wanted to sing like Olivia Newton-John or John Travolta should come along on 3 July to Muswell Hill Library, Queens Avenue N10, for a 7pm workshop with international vocal coach Sean Jeffrey, followed by an 8pm screening of Grease for everyone to sing along.

Jazz fans should make a date for an improvisation session at Highgate Library, Shepherd's Hill N6 on 4 July, 7.30pm to 10pm, learning how to turn your voice into an instrument for classics like Fly me to the Moon and many more. Jazz instrumentalists welcome to join in as well.

3 July also sees a Slam Poetry workshop for teenagers, at the teen library in Wood Green Library, High Road N22, from 4pm to 5.30pm with Joelle Taylor, coordinator of the Rise Londonwide youth slam championships.

Said Cllr Dhiren Basu, Haringey cabinet member for leisure, culture and lifelong learning:

"Haringey libraries have something for everyone through the summer across the borough, and I hope as many people as possible will give these sessions a try."

The events are part of the capital-wide Sing London festival from 29 June to 8 July, with singing activities, workshops and street dancing across the city, culminating in a mass singalong at the South Bank. For more details see www.singlondon.org (external link).
