Rosen to the occasion
Publication date: Wednesday 30 June 2010
Popular children’s author Michael Rosen wowed children at the Mulberry primary school, Tottenham, with his animated tales of ‘derring-do’.
More than 500 children attended two performances by the former children’s laureate – reading from his poems and stories and taking questions from the youngsters.
Mulberry head, Alan Jenner, said the performances brought the work to life – adding:
“This year the school has focussed on raising literacy standards – and Michael’s presence was a further strand in our drive to raise standards.
“His performances gave the children a fantastic insight into exactly how an author engages with their audience and what fun both writing and reading can be.”
Also present at the performances was Haringey’s Cabinet Member for Children’s Services Cllr Lorna Reith (pictured with the children and Michael Rosen) – who commented:
“It was just great to see the children’s eyes light up when they were listening to such an accomplished author.
“There can’t be many better ways to spark young people’s interest in reading and writing than events like this.”
