Pupils raise £3,500 for Haiti
Publication date: Monday 8 March 2010
Children at a South Tottenham primary school raised thousands of pounds for Haiti with a disco, danceathon and a fashion show.
The pupils at St Mary’s Priory in Hermitage Road were so moved by the footage of the earthquake and its survivors that they asked teachers if they could help.
Each class picked a different way to raise money and between them pupils raised £3,500.
Parents also joined in the activities, which ranged from light-hearted games, through to educational challenges – including a sponsored spelling test and a times table bingo game. Many children also donated their toys for an auction, while teachers gave gifts for the raffle.
Cllr Lorna Reith, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said:
“These children have raised an incredible amount of money. The generosity of these children and their families will help many people whose lives have been devastated by the tragedy in Haiti.”
