Special waste collections for Passover

Publication date: Monday 15 March 2010

Special bulky goods collections will take place in Seven Sisters in the run up to Passover and an extra rubbish collection and a special white goods collection will also take place.

Observant Jews spend the weeks before Passover spring cleaning their homes, to clear them of Chametz - bread, grains and leavened products, and other items that they no longer need. The consumption of Chametz is prohibited during Passover in most Jewish traditions.

On dates specified below, residents can dispose of their bulky items such as mattresses and other furniture. White goods such as TV's fridges or cookers are excluded as these items will be collected from resident's front gardens on 29 March 2010.

Cabinet Member for Housing, Environment and Conservation, Cllr John Bevan, said:

"Haringey has a diverse community and I'm pleased we are able to offer these extra services for observers of the Jewish faith.

"We are committed to working with local communities to ensure that streets and public spaces are attractive, well-used and clean."

Residents should bring their items along to the refuse vehicle which will be at the following locations at the specified times.

White Goods Collections

On Monday 29 March 2010 as per previous years we will be offering an additional refuse collection and white goods collection to certain roads.

Residents can place domestic household waste out for collection by 6am and are asked to ensure any white goods are placed out next to bins and labelled for collection (to avoid crews taking goods that are not intended for collection). The following white goods can be left out for collection:

  • Washing machines and tumble dryers
  • Dishwashers
  • TV's

In addition to the above we will also be providing an additional sweeping team to sweep the same roads detailed on the map and list, this team will start work at 7am and work a 10 hour shift until 5pm.
