Raising the Olympic Flag
Tuesday 19 August 2008
London 2012 hopeful Torema Dorsett will join Haringey Mayor Cllr Alan Dobbie and Council Leader Cllr George Meehan to raise the Olympic flag on Sunday 24 August.
The flag-raising, one of many taking place in London and across the country, marks the end of the Beijing Games and the official handover of the Olympics to London for 2012.
The ceremony will take place outside Wood Green Central Library, High Road, N22, from 3pm, with the flag-raising followed by a short acrobatic display by the Scarabeus troupe, including aerial acrobatics from the roof of the library. All welcome.
Sprinter Torema, from Bounds Green, previously attended Alexandra Park school, and is currently funded through UK Athletic's world talent programme. She has already run just over half a second outside the 2008 Olympics qualifying time for the women's 100 metres, and took silver representing the UK at the European youth olympics last year.
