The school building in Broadwater Farm will bring together pupils from Broadwater Farm Primary School, the existing Children’s Centre and primary-aged pupils from Moselle and William C Harvey special schools.

Designed for students of differing educational needs, the inclusive learning campus in Adams Road is believed to be first of its kind in the country.

In the new landscaped grounds and central community area, children will be able to enjoy outdoor lessons, an amphitheatre, a sensory garden, a wildlife pond and horticultural space, hard and soft play areas, a sand and water playground and a multi use games area.

Inside the new building, children will have use of a hydrotherapy pool, therapy suites, a library, a gym, and a music and drama studio.

Work will start later this year, with the campus opening in 2011.

Margaret Sumner, headteacher of William C Harvey – who will be heading up the new special school - said:

“This 21st century inclusive learning campus will be at the heart of the Broadwater Farm Community. It will be inspirational, cutting edge, groundbreaking, visionary and innovative. But most of all, this amazing project is very simply about children. All the children, including those with the most profound and complex of needs, will be learning together in an environment where every child’s needs are met.”

Dawn Ferdinand, headteacher of Broadwater Farm Primary School, added:

“The vision of this fabulous project is one of togetherness, learning, playing and developing in a setting which is purpose-built. It brings children of all needs and abilities under one roof, sharing the experiences of our world. This is the opportunity of a lifetime for the children, parents, staff and the local community to grow together as one. This is the future of education.”

It is intended that this facility will also bring opportunities to the whole community like breakfast clubs, homework clubs, childcare for children aged 0 to 11, parenting support and advice on employment, housing and benefits.
