New Assistant Director for Planning and Regeneration
Friday 10 October 2008
Haringey Council has appointed Marc Dorfman to its new post of Assistant Director for Planning, Regeneration and Economy.

Marc joins Haringey from Redbridge Council, where as Chief Planning and Regeneration Officer he currently oversees planning, building control, urban design, regeneration and major projects.
He helped Redbridge become the first London borough to secure the approval of its new Local Development Framework Core Strategy, oversaw the launch of a new pre-application design and development advice service, and led on the Unity Square project – an £80million mixed use and theatre redevelopment scheme in Ilford.
Previously he was Head of Regeneration and Major Projects at Ealing Council.
Marc’s interest in planning originally grew from his work in Senegal, Africa, on rural and urban renewal projects.
He later became research assistant to Dr Tony Gibson, the inventor of Planning for Real – a revolutionary planning consultation tool through the use of modelling - before spells at the Town and Country Planning Association, and Southwark and Camden councils.
He also works to support planning skills and professional development in London through Planning Training Partnerships. Recently Redbridge, Hackney and the University of Westminster launched a new foundation course “Planning for Non Planners”, aimed at planning administrators.
His new role at Haringey brings together the previously separate Planning and Economic Regeneration functions, with the aim of ensuring the borough derives maximum social, economic and environmental benefit from all new developments.
Marc said:
“This is a very exciting time to be joining Haringey. The borough has two of the biggest regeneration projects in London taking shape, at Tottenham Hale and Haringey Heartlands, as well as one of the most innovative employment projects in the shape of the Haringey Guarantee.
“I also look forward to meeting the environmental challenges set out in the council’s new Greenest Borough Strategy, by looking at how we can best encourage more sustainable design and construction for all new developments.”
Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Enterprise, Cllr Kaushika Amin, said:
“Marc has a wealth of experience in the fields of planning and regeneration. I very much look forward to working with him to help make Haringey an even more desirable place to live and work.”
Marc will start at Haringey on 3 November 2008.
