More than a council home
Publication date: Wednesday 10 March 2010
People in housing need can now get help from the council to find accommodation in the private sector rather than waiting for a council home, a short film produced by the housing office for shoppers in Wood Green will show.
The film outlines the many housing options open to people in the borough and will be launched in Wood Green Shopping City next week as part of a Community Roadshow.
The focal point of the show will be a multi-screen High Definition Plasma Videowall which will feature a film made by the Housing Advice and Options Team. The centre has a weekly footfall of 200,000 people.
Housing staff and landlords from partner agencies appear in the film to inform shoppers of the different housing schemes and accommodation options available.
The film is 60 - 90 seconds in length and will be broadcast a minimum of 500 times throughout the week.
Cllr John Bevan, Cabinet Member for Housing, Environment and Conservation, says:
"It's time we reminded people that there are lots of alternatives to council housing and we can help them access these alternatives. We work with good landlords across the borough who are prepared to offer good quality housing for those in need.
"It's no longer a case of having to spend a long time in temporary housing. Now we will help find good homes in the private sector as well as providing support to prevent homelessness in the first place."
