More cycle hoops for borough
Publication date: Tuesday 27 July 2010
New 'Cyclehoop' bike parking facilities have been installed in shopping areas of Muswell Hill, Hornsey and Crouch End, making it easier for cyclists to park their bikes at popular locations.
The hoops are attached to existing signposts, providing more secure cycle parking options without adding to street clutter. A sticker on each of the signposts explains how to lock bicycles onto the Cyclehoop, making sure cyclists properly secure their bikes to help prevent theft.
The Cyclehoops have been funded by the Department for Energy and Climate Change, and the 19 locations for the hoops were chosen through consultation with the Haringey Cycle Campaign.
Cllr Nilgun Canver, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said:
"The installation of the Cyclehoops has given cyclists many more choices in where to securely park their bicycles in busy shopping areas. We hope that this will encourage more people to get on their bike to go to the shops rather than taking their car, helping in our efforts against climate change."
