Keeping the green flags flying in Haringey

Publication date: Wednesday 18 July 2012

All fifteen council-run Green Flag parks have held onto their status as being among the best in the country.

The announcement yesterday (17 July) by Keep Britain Tidy means that Haringey has the third highest number of award winning parks in London.

Wood Green Cemetery also gained prestigious Green Flag accreditation in 2011 but was not entered this year because it is no longer managed by Haringey Council.

The green spaces receiving the coveted award for 2012 and raising the flag shortly are:

  • Albert Road Recreation Ground
  • Belmont Recreation Ground
  • Bruce Castle Park
  • Chapmans Green
  • Chestnuts Park
  • Coldfall Wood
  • Downhills Park
  • Fairland Park
  • Finsbury Park
  • Markfield Park
  • Paignton Park
  • Priory Park
  • Railway Fields
  • Russell Park
  • Stationers Park

Cabinet Member for Environment Cllr Nilgun Canver said:

“It is fantastic news that despite these challenging times all our parks have retained their status as being amongst the cleanest and greenest in the country.

"Congratulations must go to the staff, Friends’ of Parks and community groups who have worked in close partnership to achieve this outstanding success.

“It really does take a team effort to keep up the very high standards expected of Green Flag parks and I want to thank everyone involved. Now all we need is some sunshine to help us enjoy them!”

Four local community gardens have also received Green Flag Community Awards. They are:

  • Hornsey Churchyard
  • Lordship Woodland
  • Living Under One Sun Community Allotments
  • The Gardens’ Community Garden
