RM wins secondary schools ICT contract
Thursday 21 August 2008
Haringey Council has agreed a contract worth up to £24.5 million with RM Education PLC for the provision of computing and ICT (information and communications technology) services to all of the borough's secondary, and special schools, covering more than 12,000 students.
RM will now play a key role in the delivery of exciting improvements to the ICT at local secondary schools. The company will be responsible for installing all the required ICT equipment, software and networks for secondary schools in the borough and provide maintenance and associated services for a minimum period of five years.
The deal is an important milestone in Haringey's Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme which will see significant improvements to the borough's secondary and special school buildings.
RM will provide the council with a Managed Learning Environment to meet the educational and transformational requirements of Haringey's BSF programme. The Managed Learning Environment will allow students to log on to a school network through the Internet from anywhere, and potentially ask their teachers questions, complete and submit homework, and even discuss work with classmates. Parents will also be able to access the learning environment to get information about their child's learning such as homework, assessments, and attendance.
The service from RM will officially start on September 1 this year when an interim service will be available to secondary and special schools.
RM was unveiled as the preferred bidder after several months of competition and negotiation around the contract.
Councillor Liz Santry, cabinet member for children and young people, said:
"This contract is a key milestone and it illustrates how the BSF programme is gaining pace. We are in an exciting chapter of change and improvement in our secondary schools."
Cllr Santry added:
"I'm delighted for our young people that through this partnership they will have access to inspiring ICT in years to come. These technologies will undoubtedly, positively support teaching and learning in our schools."
Terry Sweeney, CEO Designate of RM, said:
"The Haringey BSF team has a very clear vision of how they intend to develop their schools and the role they intend ICT to play. We're privileged to have the opportunity to work with them to deliver that vision."
