Haringey hosts Chinese visitors
Thursday 2 July 2009
Haringey hosted a group of youth and community leaders from China as part of a national exchange programme.
The aim of the programme is to allow future leaders in both countries to meet each other.
Haringey Council’s Youth Service was asked to take part by the British Council and the visit by 25 Chinese delegates was the first of a number of visitors from China to visit Haringey and the rest of the country in the coming months.
During their 10-day visit, the delegation of government officials visited the Bruce Grove area youth project, Spurs, Haringey 6th Form Centre and the Civic Centre. They also met members of the Haringey Youth Council and Haringey members of the Youth Parliament.
Cllr Lorna Reith, cabinet member for children and young people, said:
“We have strong links with a number of countries around the world.
“This is just the latest in a series of exchange events involving Haringey and China. A number of our officers and local headteachers have already visited China.
“We’re looking to continue to develop our links with China in the coming months and years.”
