Haringey residents are quids in at leisure fun day

Friday 5 September 2008

Haringey residents inspired by the Beijing Olympics will have the chance to try out Haringey Council's most modern leisure facilities and classes for just £1 or less during a special fun day on Sunday 14 September.

The offer, which runs from 10am to 4pm, will give residents the opportunity to try out sessions and equipment at the council's new state-of-the-art leisure centre located in the Sixth Form Centre in College Road, N17.

Anyone applying for annual leisure centre membership on the day will also receive the equivalent of two weeks for free.

The fun day coincides with a Back to School special offer, through which you can sign up for membership of the council's leisure facilities without having to pay a joining fee up to Thursday 25 September.

Cabinet member for leisure, culture and lifelong learning, Cllr Dhiren Basu, said:

"We want to do all we can to capture all the excitement generated by the Beijing Olympics as we try to encourage more of our residents to get fit and active ahead of London 2012.

"Too few of our residents currently take part in regular exercise. The fun day is about demonstrating that everyone in this borough can access council leisure equipment and activities that are good value, good quality, and good fun.

"In particular we want to show off our new modern facilities at the Haringey Sixth Form Centre. I hope the Fun Day will spur on more of our residents to make regular use of these facilities and our other leisure centres."

The Sixth Form Centre includes a fitness suite, sports hall and outdoor games, which are  open to the public in the evenings and over the weekend.

The sports hall can be hired for badminton, volleyball and basketball, while residents can play netball, five-a-side football on the outdoor games area.

A range of group classes are also available at the centre, including pilates, yoga and holistic classes.
