Green Fair and football success at Ducketts Common
Publication date: Tuesday 15 June 2010
It's not always easy being Green as England's keeper will testify, but Haringey's fourth Green Fair was an outstanding success, attracting thousands of visitors to the festivities at Ducketts Common on Saturday.
As well as headline bands and performers such as ASWAD, the fair provided fun and unusual ways to help residents cut their carbon footprint. These included tips on growing your own food, bicycle repairs and practice, a Give and Take swap shop, recycling art, experiments to show energy usage and eco friendly workshops and activities.
Following the Fair, around 4,000 fans flocked to the sun bathed Common to watch England's first World Cup game on the eco friendly, bio-fuelled outdoor screen.
Apart from the football result, a great time was had by all.
Cllr Joe Goldberg Cabinet Member for Finance and Sustainability, said:
"The Green Fair is Haringey's flagship event promoting eco- friendly living. I am delighted that so many residents attended the fair this year and stayed to enjoy the free screening of the World Cup match.
"It's great to see so many people, especially children, getting involved in the challenge to protect the environment and I hope they will work with the council to help substantially cut carbon emissions in Haringey over the next few years."
