8th Wood Green International Short Film Festival
Publication date: Wednesday 24 March 2010
More than 60 films from 18 different countries and four continents will lend a truly global flavour to this year's Wood Green International Short Film Festival.
Local movie makers will rub shoulders with emerging talent from the world of film as some of the finest short flicks hit the big screen at Cineworld, Wood Green High Road.
The four-day celebration of cinema opens on 25 March and will feature screenings, workshops, a youth film day and an awards ceremony and closing gala at Alexandra Palace.
Organisers received a record 200 film entries from emerging directors from 31 countries, and have whittled the final screenings down to 60, including a host of shorts made by Haringey-based film-makers.
Countries represented at the awards include Poland, Slovakia, Iceland, Peru, Russia, the USA and the United Arab Emirates.
Screenings will also include documentary, experimental and animation, and will be followed by Q and As with directors, and networking events.
Fringe events planned for the festival include a series of workshops and seminars at Wood Green Central Library, a pop-up cinema at the Big Green Bookshop and an award winners' screening at the Bernie Grant Arts Centre.
A full programme of events is available at www.woodgreenfilmfestival.co.uk
