Duke of Edinburgh bosses to visit young people
Thursday 4 February 2010
Young people from Haringey will have an opportunity next week to showcase their achievements to one of the country's biggest youth organisations.
The Chief Executive and Chairman of Trustees for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award will be visiting the borough next Tuesday 9 February to meet young people and members of Haringey Council’s youth service.
In Haringey, almost 500 young people from 14 to 24-years-old are taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh scheme.
Cllr Lorna Reith, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said:
“This is an excellent scheme, which gives young people new skills, whilst also encouraging them to support their local community.
“Haringey’s young people have been working on some very interesting and worthwhile projects so they will have plenty to share with their high-profile visitors.”
Chair of Trustees Sir Tom Farmer and Chief Executive Peter Westgarth will be spending more than an hour at the Duke of Edinburgh Award Training Centre, which is based at St Thomas More School in Glendale Avenue, Wood Green.
The centre was opened by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh in May 2006.
