Diagonal crossing comes to Wood Green
Publication date: Monday 29 November 2010

Crossing from Wood Green tube station to the Morrison's side of the street just got a lot easier with the opening of a new diagonal pedestrian crossing.
The crossing, at one of Wood Green's busiest junctions, was opened at 3pm on Friday 26 November by Cllr Nilgun Canver, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods.
It should not significantly affect the traffic flow as only a small adjustment to traffic signal times is required.
Haringey Council Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Cllr Nilgun Canver, said:

"I'm very happy to see this up and running. In order to cross over to the Morrison's side of the road from the underground pedestrians have had to negotiate two busy roads.
"This diagonal crossing will be quicker and will make the journey to and from the underground station easier and safer. It will also prevent people from jumping the barriers, to cut out the double crossing.
"The traditional crossing routes will remain but have been improved to make them more accessible for wheelchair users and those with sight, hearing or mobility impairments."
The crossing has been built with £400,000 from TfL to improve pedestrian accessibility at this busy junction.
The scheme includes:
- a diagonal pedestrian crossing from Wood Green Station
- stop lines for cyclists on all approaches to the signalled junction
- improvements to the street lighting at the junction
- new pavement surfaces at selected areas
- extension of taxi parking on the High Road
- additional cycle parking.
