Compost give away - get growing!
Publication date: Tuesday 18 May 2010
We are giving away 14 tonnes of compost to help all green-fingered residents with their gardens.
All of the compost is made from green waste collected in north London and meets British compost certification standards.
Bring a couple of bags, sacks or boxes to Finsbury Park, near the cafe, on Saturday 22 May from 10am to 3pm and fill them up for free!
Initially, the amount per person will be limited to 2 containers to allow everyone an opportunity to have some, but feel free to hang around and collect more a little later in the morning.
Cabinet Member designate for Neighbourhoods, Cllr Nilgun Canver, said:
"This is a great opportunity to make use of our recycled materials and nourish your garden at the same time. I hope residents can get along to take some compost for their gardens or allotments."
Also on hand that day in Finsbury Park will be information on home composting and the discounted bins available to Haringey residents, information about food growing projects, free seed packs, a home growing and edible foods demonstration, and free children's activities including bean planting, face painting and a bouncy castle.
There will also be a chance to speak to members of Haringey's environmental team, BTCV, Living Under One Sun community allotment, Transition Finsbury Park and Sustainable Haringey.
Note for visitors: There is ticketed parking in Finsbury Park. Forks and spades will be provided.
