Compact awards for Haringey
Thursday 27 November 2008
Haringey's partnership Compact between the council, other public agencies and the voluntary sector has won top national and regional awards this month.
At the annual national Compact awards the partnership took the exceptional achievement prize for its "compact-proofing toolkit" system which helps check that public and voluntary agencies are working effectively together.
Sir Bert Massie CBE, who heads the national Commission for the Compact, said:
"I would like to congratulate Haringey. The quality of entrants this year was extremely high and the judging panel was very impressed with the level of commitment to the Compact."
At the London Compact awards the Haringey Compact took the top prize for developing Compact ways of thinking.
The award was presented to Cllr Lorna Reith, Haringey cabinet member for community cohesion and involvement, by Minister for the Third Sector Kevin Brennan.
Said Cllr Reith:
"Local community and voluntary organisations play a vital role, and our Compact, with 100 organisations now signed up, sets out clearly how all of us can work together in the interests of local people. I'm delighted that everyone's efforts have been recognised with these awards."
The Compact was established nationally in 1998 with all-party support as an agreement between the Government at national and local level and the voluntary and community sector providing an overall framework for promoting effective partnership working.
