Publication date: Wednesday 15 August 2012
A charity event that will see hundreds of ordinary people taking part in a mini-triathlon will take place at Park Road Leisure centre on 1 September.
Called Haringey's Aquathlon, the event is aimed at 16+ adult beginners and has been developed with the novice in mind.
The event will start with swimming in the Park Road Lido and finish on a local playing field at the end of the run.
There are four categories to enter: Novice, Intermediate, Advanced and Team, each with increasing lengths of swimming and running, as follows:
- Novice - 90m (two lengths) swim and 1km run
- Intermediate - 180m (four lengths) swim and 2 km run
- Advanced - 360 (8 length) swim and 4 km run
- Open Team or NHS closed team (x 4 members) - 180m (four lengths) swim and 1 km run each
Cllr Richard Watson, Cabinet Member for Communities, says:
"If you have been watching the Olympics and fancy trying a short Triathlon then this event is for you! By taking part you will also help raise funds for charity. This doesn't have to be a race, just go at your own pace and see what you can do!"
The event starts at 9am and finishes at 1pm. To register go to the Haringey Aquathlon website (external link).
It will cost £10 to enter which includes a Triathlon England day license and a donation to the charity Action for Kids. Concessions apply.
The event is organised in partnership with England Athletics, England Triathlon, Action For Kids and others, with the aim of hosting the first of many Haringey Aquathlons and starting a new Triathlon Club in the borough. It is partly funded through Haringey's Olympic 2012 Fund.
