Property re-possessed after anti-social behaviour

Publication date: Friday 12 March 2010

A 20 year-old Hornsey woman has been evicted from her flat and banned from the Campsbourne estate after a catalogue of anti-social behaviour incidents.

Residents complained about nuisance coming from the property where Nikita Broderick (also known as Bradeesha Broderick) lived at Campsfield House.

She allowed people to congregate in her property, with problems with loud music as well as litter and broken bottles in communal stairwells. Residents were afraid to leave their properties after dark, as people would be loitering near her property consuming alcohol and smoking cannabis.

Cllr Nilgun Canver, Cabinet Member for Enforcement and Safer Communities, said:

"This woman made the lives of other residents unbearable.

"I'm delighted we were able to help them deal with this problem.

"The residents were particularly helpful as they reported matters to the ASBAT as soon as they occurred, provided statements in confidence and were not discouraged or intimidated.

"They were also very patient as problems like this can't be resolved overnight.

"I'm also grateful to the police who were also very helpful as they acted quickly when the assault on the neighbour, and other incidents were reported to them."

Haringey Council's Anti-Social Behaviour Action Team (ASBAT) made unsuccessful attempts to meet her. She was given a written warning about her behaviour.

The problems continued as she became verbally abusive to some residents and she was issued with a notice to quit.

The problems escalated as she attacked a neighbour causing him serious injuries, broken ribs, a broken shoulder, and a deep cut to his head. The victim was placed in emergency temporary accommodation, and eventually given a permanent move out of the area as there were concerns about his safety.

The ASBAT liaised with the police and she was arrested, charged and taken into custody for a number of offences.

While she was in prison, it was reported to the ASBAT that she had carried out a robbery and assault on a young person living on the estate. ASBAT liaised with the police and she was also charged in connection with this offence.

The council applied for possession of her property which was granted by a judge and she was evicted from the property on 28 January 2010.

An injunction with a power of arrest has also been granted, banning her from the estate.
