Go online for school admissions in 2009
Thursday 4 September 2008
From this week, Haringey parents will be able to lodge online school admissions applications for 2009.
From 1 September, the council’s online application system will be available at www.haringey.gov.uk/schooladmissions.
Although people can apply by submitting a paper form, the online application process is quicker and easier and changes can be made on the application right up until the deadline date.
By applying online, parents can then view the school place offer online next March, without having to wait for it to be posted.
Online applicants must still post evidence of home addresses to the Admissions Service, 48 Station Road, Wood Green, London, N22 7TY.
People must only use one form of application method, either online or by paper. If more than one form is complete, only the last form received will be considered.
Information booklets on the procedure for applying for places at both primary and secondary schools in Haringey will be distributed to schools and available from libraries, customer service centres and online:
The booklets set out how admission decisions are taken and the timetable for the process. The council’s admissions team applies the rules set out in the admissions arrangements.
For primary schools:
If your child will be five on or between 1 September 2009 and 31 August 2010, you need to apply for a primary school place. The closing date for applications to Haringey primary schools is 7 November 2008.
Applications are open from 1 September to 7 November.
For secondary students:
If your child will be 11 on or between 1 September 2008 and 31 August 2009, you need to apply for a secondary school place. The closing date for applications to secondary schools in Haringey is 24 October.
The secondary school booklet includes information on opening dates for schools in the borough.
Cllr Liz Santry, cabinet member for children and young people, said:
“It is important that our residents have all the correct information on our local schools and these booklets can provide just that.
“I urge all parents and carers to start their research as soon as possible so they can make the best decision on what school would suit their needs.
“How far you live from your preferred school does affect your child’s likelihood of securing a place. It is important therefore that parents and carers study the information in the booklet about previous year’s admissions.
“I would also encourage anyone who could, to make their applications online, as this is an easier and quicker process, and offers a convenient system for those people making cross-borough applications.
