feature: Working together

28 May 2008

Tackling local issues means working together.

So the council and other agencies, together with community groups and businesses, have got together in the Haringey Strategic Partnership to plan a better future for the borough.

Now the partnership has agreed a new action plan, the Haringey Local Area Agreement (LAA), to turn that vision into reality.

Council Leader George Meehan chairs the strategic partnership.

“The agreement focuses on some of our most pressing issues where we all need to work together to improve the quality of life for everyone in Haringey.”

Haringey is a good place to live, work and do business. This plan is about making it even better.

“We want our borough to be a place for all our diverse communities, and we want everyone to be proud to live and work here.”

The LAA sets clear targets for the council, the police, local NHS and other partners.

Cllr Meehan says:

“Whether we are talking about recycling more, getting people back to work, tackling crime improving our health and education, we will be working together to make a real difference.”

The plan will now be put into action, with regular updates to partnership members. The Local Area Agreement includes 35 areas for improvement, with targets now being finalised with central government, in line with the priorities in the Haringey Sustainable Community Strategy.
