Haringey's Home Care Service is going from strength to strength. We look at the latest developments.
Haringey Home Care helps hundreds of people across the borough every day.
It offers in-home assistance to residents who need help with tasks so that they can remain independently in the community for as long as possible.
Its users vary from people who need short-term support after a hospital stay to those older residents who may need long-term assistance.
The service caters for individual needs, taking into consideration quality of life and personal choice, and is open to all people over the age of 18 in the borough.
The service is currently trying out a new initiative, where home carers are joining with the older people’s mental health team to strengthen the support given to older people with dementia. Initial results are positive, with residents helped to do things such as going to the shops or cafes, which they would not normally be able to do.
User forums
The service also holds regular user forums for those receiving home care, as well as their family, friends and carers. These forums are a place to share information and a great opportunity for people to meet socially and enjoy some time with others in similar situations.
On call
A recent development is the creation of a ‘staff bank’, specially trained care workers who are on call so that residents are not disrupted by unavoidable staffing issues such as sickness or emergency leave.
Cllr Bob Harris, cabinet member for adult social care, said:
“The Home Care Service is about providing our residents with a service that can help them lead independent lives in a safe and supportive environment.
“We aim to provide our residents with all the care and support they need.”
