feature: Green giants
4 January 2008
Later this month Haringey Council will be staging a major conference on its new plan to make us the greenest borough in London. Why not come along, find out more and have your say?
Haringey has set out its stall to become the Greenest Borough in London. And now we’ve published a draft Greenest Borough strategy setting out how we might achieve that aim.
This will be discussed and debated at a special conference at West Green Learning Centre at Park View Academy, Langham Road, N15, on Saturday 26 January, from 10.30am to 3pm. And residents, community groups and businesses from across the borough are all invited to come along and give their views.
The conference will be one of the last key elements of a wider consultation on the draft Greenest Borough strategy. This, along with a questionnaire, can be found at www.haringey.gov.uk/goinggreen
Attendees will be told about the results of the consultation so far, while guest speakers will give their views on today’s biggest environmental issues, particularly the importance of tackling climate change.
Representatives from the council will set out the action currently being taken to improve Haringey’s environment and address climate change at a local level.
Residents attending the conference can give their views on this at a series of workshops. Is Haringey taking the best course of action? Are our priorities right? Are our targets ambitious enough?
There will also be an interactive “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” style voting session on the main parts of the new strategy.
Cabinet Member for environment and conservation, Cllr Brian Haley, said: “The Greenest Borough strategy is not so much a council plan, as a plan for everyone who lives and works in Haringey. It can’t be achieved without the help of the wider community, and it will affect everyone to some extent over the coming years.
“It’s vitally important that we have input from residents, businesses and community. I would encourage everyone with any interest in environmental issues to come along to the conference, have your say and help us produce the best possible plan of action.”
