feature: Carer of the year
13 May 2008
Haringey residents are again being given the chance to nominate the borough’s carer of the year.
The award is to highlight the invaluable work of unpaid carers who look after members of their family or a friend.

Last year’s Carer of the Year was Mr Luis Camara (pictured with his wife Alzira) from Wood Green – one of an estimated 16,000 unpaid carers in the borough. He was presented with a special trophy to mark the award.
Last year there were more than 50 nominations for 29 carers and it’s hoped that more people will nominate more carers this year.
Cllr Bob Harris, cabinet member for adult social care, said:
“This award is a visible way of recognising the tremendous work of carers which, for the most part, goes unseen.”
Nominate on the form opposite or pick up a form in libraries, GP surgeries, reception areas at council buildings and health centres. They can also be downloaded from the carers award page.
The closing date is the end of May, with this year’s winner being announced during Carers’ Week which runs from 9-15 June.
