Open Spaces

Haringey Council manages nearly 267 hectares of open space including 41 parks, 5 conservation sites, 27 allotments and many open spaces on housing sites and by the roadside.

We have four Green Flag Parks

  • Bruce Castle Park
  • Priory Park
  • Stationers Park
  • Railway Fields Local Nature Reserve.

The Green Flag award is given in recognition of achieving and maintaining excellent standards for a public park.

Open space can be divided mainly into public open space, which is accessible to the public and urban green space, which allows restricted public access. Public open space includes parks, conservation sites and woodlands and urban green space covers areas such as allotments and cemeteries.

Haringey Council also manages a number of grass and roadside verges that are either in the form of flower/shrub beds or grassy areas, all found by the roadside. The bigger of these areas provide seating and are classified as roadside gardens.

Friends of Parks

Friends of Parks groups are formed by local residents who care and want to take an active part in improving their local green space. They organise community days and events to attract people into the parks, and they feed back into the Friends Forum that meets every two months to share and discuss issues that affect all the borough’s parks and open spaces.
