Neighbourhood Renewal Fund
This funding was introduced in 2001, to support the delivery of 'A New Commitment to Neighbourhood Renewal, National Strategy Action Plan'. It is targeted at improving services in the most deprived neighbourhoods by changing the way services are delivered.
The funding was originally for three years, but the programme has now been extended to March 2008.
Funding is allocated to local authority districts with wards in the most deprived 10% in England (see Indices of Deprivation 2004) in proportion to the population of these wards, however, it can also be spent on tackling deprivation in the other parts of the borough. The Neighbourhood Renewal Fund (NRF) is allocated to councils and monitored by the Government Office for London (GOL) and the Neighbourhood Renewal Unit (NRU).
The Local Neighbourhood Renewal Strategy sets the framework for NRF spending, and the Local Strategic Partnership must approve the programme. Haringey has been allocated just under £44m. This breaks down as follows:
- 2001/02 - £2.6m
- 2002/03 - £4.0m
- 2003/04 - £5.3m
- 2004/05 - £6.8m
- 2005/06 - £9.1m
- 2006/07 - £8.2m
- 2007/08 - £7.8m
