The 2001 Census

There is a vast array of information contained within the 2001 Census available in varying degrees of detail for a variety of geographical levels. The majority of the results from the 2001 Census have now been released. ONS plans to provide access to many of the results via their website. More detailed results such as cross tabulations are available to order from ONS on CD-ROM and DVD.

Neighbourhood statistics

The Neighbourhood Statistics service was launched in February 2001 by ONS in partnership with central and local Government. The site is designed to enable users to view, compare or download statistics for local areas on a wide range of subjects, much of which is available at neighbourhood (ward) level. Some information can be accessed at Output Area level, which is the smallest area level that Census information is available at. Information at various geographical areas covers:

  • 2001 Census
  • Access to Services
  • Community Well-being/Social Environment
  • Crime and Safety
  • Economic Deprivation
  • Education, Skills and Training
  • Health and Care
  • Housing
  • Indices of Deprivation
  • People and Society
  • Physical Environment
  • Work Deprivation.
