Education

  • There are 63 primary schools in Haringey including infant and junior schools.
  • There are 11 secondary schools in Haringey, 9 of which have sixth form provision.
  • There is a new sixth form centre in the east of the borough.
  • In January 2007 the Haringey school population was approx 35,000.
  • About half of all pupils speak English as an additional language. The proportion of pupils using EAL in primary schools is 53% in 2007. In secondary schools it is 45%.
  • Key Stage 2 - in 2006 75% of pupils achieved level 4 or above in English and 70% of pupils achieved level 4 or above in Mathematics. The national average is 79% for English and 76% for Maths (Source: DfES, 2006).
  • GCSE - in 2006  51.7% of pupils gained 5+ A*-C grades or equivalent compared to a national average of 59.2%. This represented a significant improvement since 2001 when 30.9% of pupils gained 5+A*-C grades (Source: DfES, 2005).
