Haringey Residents Survey 2005/2006
Crime was the top personal concern in the council's annual residents survey (2005/2006). It was mentioned by nearly half of all respondents.

Haringey: In 2006/2007 there have been 30.595 recorded TNOs in Haringey, 13.5% down (4,772 fewer offences) than for the same period last year. This performance represents an annual incident rate of 136.3 offences per 1,000 population which is lower than the 2005/06 performance of 157.6 per 1,000 population. On average there are approximately 398 fewer offences every month in 2006/2007 compared to 2005/2006.
London: In 2006/2007 Haringey is ranked 112th highest in London above the London average of 28,648 TNO offences.
‘Most Similar’ group: Haringey had the 6th lowest number of offences but the 5th highest TNO crime rate per 1,000 population when compared to the other London boroughs in the ‘Most Similar’ group, in 2006/07. The number of offences in Haringey is less than the average for the ‘Most Similar’ group of 32,085, however per 1,000 population, the rate in Haringey is higher (136.3 compared to the group rate of 125.9). Per 1,000 households, there was a rate of 28.7 burglaries, lower than in 2005/06 when it was 30.2 per 1,000 households. There was an average of nearly 12 fewer offences per month in 2006/07 compared with 2005/06.
London: In 2006/07, Haringey had the second highest number of residential burglaries in London (out of 32 boroughs), significantly higher than the London average of 1,873. Year on year, Haringey has the 19th largest percentage reduction in residential burglaries, compared to rest of the London boroughs.
‘Most Similar’ group: In 2006/07 Haringey had the second highest number of offences (2,709 offences) and the highest residential burglary rate of 28.8 per 1,000 households in its ‘Most Similar’ group. This is notably higher than the group average of 2,251 burglaries and higher than the group average incidence rate of 21.6 per 1,000 households

This performance represents an annual incident rate of 8.0 offences per 1,000 population, compared with 8.5 per 1,000 population in 2005/06. On average in 2006/07 there were nearly 10 fewer offences per month than in 2005/06.
London: In 2006/07 Haringey had the 8th highest number of robberies in London (out of 32 boroughs), higher than the London average of 1,327 offences. Year on year, Haringey has the13th largest percentage reduction in robbery throughout London (6%).
‘Most Similar’ group: In 2006/07 Haringey had the 7th lowest number of personal robbery offences among its ‘Most Similar’ boroughs, and the 6th lowest rate. Haringey had a lower number of offences compared with the group average of 1,895, but a higher rate per 1,000 population (8.0 compared to 7.4 in the ‘Most Similar’ group).

Haringey: There were 4,457 motor vehicle offences (comprising ‘theft of’ and ‘theft from’ motor vehicle) in Haringey in 2006/07, 10.7% (535 offences) lower than in 2005/06. This performance represents a rate of 19.9 offences per 1,000 population, which is lower than in 2005/06 when the rate was 22.2 offences per 1,000 population. There was an average of 45 fewer offence per month in 2006/07 compared with 2005/06.
London: In 2006/07 Haringey was ranked 11th highest in London (out of 32 boroughs), higher than the London average of 4,047 motor vehicle offences. Compared with 2005/06 Haringey had the 9th largest percentage decrease in number of offences in London (10.7%).
‘Most Similar’ group: Haringey had the 6th highest number of offences among the ‘Most Similar’ group in 2006/07, and the 5th highest motor vehicle offences per 1,000 population. The number of offences in Haringey is slightly below the ‘Most Similar’ group average of 4,662 but higher per 1,000 population (compared with an average of 18.3).

Haringey: There were 7,893 violent crimes (comprising violence against the person, robbery and sexual offences) in 2006/07, down 15.8% (1,477 offences) compared with 2005/06. This represents a rate of 35.2 offences per 1,000 population, lower than the rate of 41.7 in 2005/06. On average there were 123 fewer offences per month in 2006/07 than in 2005/06.
London: In 2006/07 Haringey had the 15th highest number of violent crimes in London (out of 32 boroughs), higher than the London average of 7,402 offences. Compared to 2005/06, Haringey had the 2nd largest percentage decrease in violent crimes throughout London.
‘Most Similar’ group: In 2006/07, Haringey had the 3rd lowest number of offences among the ‘Most Similar’ group, and the 6th lowest rate of violent crimes per 1,000 population. The number of offences is significantly lower than the average for the group (9,325) and slightly lower than the average rate per 1,000 population (compared with an average of 36.6).
