Indices of Deprivation at District Level

Although the geographical base for the ID 2007 is at Super Output Area (SOA) level, there are six measures that have been created at district level. Districts are ranked according to these different measures. Each measure focuses on different but equally relevant ways of assessing of multiple deprivation, so there is no single way of describing or comparing England's 354 districts. The six measures are:

  1. Average of SOA Scores is the population weighted average of the combined scores for the SOAs in a district.
  2. Average of SOA Ranks is the population weighted average of the combined ranks for the SOAs in a district.
  3. Extent is the proportion of a district's population living in the most deprived SOAs in the country.
  4. Local Concentration is the population weighted average of the ranks of a district's most deprived SOAs that contain exactly 10% of the district's population.
  5. Income Scale is the number of people who are Income deprived.
  6. Employment Scale is the number of people who are Employment deprived.

In the Attached Files section below you can find out more information about these six district level summary measures and Haringey's position in them.
