Pension Credit
Background
Pension Credit (PC) was introduced on 6 October 2003 and is an entitlement for people aged 60 and over living in Great Britain. It is not necessary to have paid National Insurance contributions to be eligible.
Key Facts
- At May 2006, the PC claim rate in Haringey was 40.7 per cent (or 10,080 people); this is up from a rate of 39.8 per cent (or 9,870 people) at May 2005.
- Haringey's PC claim rate of 40.7 per cent is significantly higher than both the London and England averages of 28.1 per cent and 24.5 per cent respectively.
- 56.7 per cent of PC claimants in Haringey are female while 43.3 per cent are male.
- Across Haringey, the highest PC claim rates are in Super Output Areas in the east of the borough
