Child Benefit
Background
Child Benefit (CB) is normally paid for children up to the age of 16. If a child, over 16, is in full-time education (ie up to A Level or NVQ level 3 standard) at a recognised educational establishment, benefit may be paid for them until they reach 19.
CB can also be paid for a short period for 16 or 17 year olds who have just left school and are registered for work or work based training for young people.
Key Facts
- At August 2005, there were 29,375 families in Haringey claiming CB. Some 53,865 children in these families were eligible for CB.
- Some 46.5 per cent of all families claiming CB in Haringey have one child; 33.8 per cent have two children; and 19.7 per cent have three or more children.
- 3.2 per cent of all families claiming CB in London live in Haringey.
- 3.2 per cent of all children eligible for CB in London live in Haringey.
