Attendance Allowance
Background
Attendance Allowance (AA) is a benefit for people over the age of 65 who are so severely (physically or mentally) disabled, that they need a great deal of help with personal care or supervision.
They could need either frequent attention coping with their bodily functions or continual supervision to stop them hurting themselves or others. This could be either during the day or night.
Key Facts
- At August 2004, the AA claim rate in Haringey was 13.5 per cent (or 2,865 people), which is unchanged from the position at August 2003.
- Haringey's AA claim rate of 13.5 per cent is higher than the London average of 12.7 per cent and lower than the England average of 14.6 per cent.
- 67.9 per cent of AA claimants in Haringey are female while 32.1 per cent are male.
- Across Haringey, the highest AA claim rates are in the following areas: Harringay, Hornsey, Northumberland Park and White Hart Lane.
