New Haringey website design

About the new design

The Haringey website has been given a new look and feel. Below is a summary of the main changes

  • The colours have changed, but there is much more to it than that. The layout of the homepage is different too, with more of a focus on top tasks and transactions, providing direct links into the most popular pages on the site, as well as introducing a new campaign area to help keep you informed about key events:
  • Our top landing pages – the ones people tend to come straight in to from Google – have been re-designed with an easy to view layout highlighting the main content areas.

  • We have introduced site wide and section wide alert boxes, to better communicate key service changes and messages across the site:

  • …as well as a series of ‘straight to’ boxes for each section highlighting key online services:

From our user surveys, a number of you indicated you were having problems searching for pages.

  • By switching to Google Site Search we expect more accurate search results, and a more familiar and intuitive search interface.
  • We’ve also made the A – Z of services more prominent and easier to use on every page.

  • And last but not least, the site will work much better for people using smartphones and mobile devices, due to the flexible design we have introduced.

To keep costs down, the new design has been developed in house. Key decisions on layout and content have been based on analysis of extensive customer survey results (over 3,500 people have completed the SOCITM customer insight survey so far), user testing, Google analytics visitor tracking data and best practice guidance. The colours also meet with the revised accessibility guidelines meaning the site will be easier for people with a range of disabilities to access.

Future changes

In the coming months we will also be updating a number of other council-owned websites – including the planning, housing, council meetings, webcasting and adult social care and family information service directories – so they also have a similar look and feel. Longer term, we are looking at improvements to our e-Payments and Citizens Account (council tax/business rates) systems, and introducing more online features. Watch this space…

Thanks to everyone who has been involved in the user testing and participated in the recent surveys (which gave the new design over 90% approval rating!)

We hope you’ll all find the new site easier to use than before.
