Foundation Learning

For young people aged 16 - 18

Are you aged 16 -18? Left school and don't know what to do next? Unlock your potential with Foundation Learning.

How does Foundation Learning work?

We work with you to create your own programme - designed to help you achieve your goals, whether that's moving onto a job, further training/education or an apprenticeship.

How does it work?

Foundation learning (FL) will enable you to choose what you want to study and how you want to study it and at what level which meets your individual needs. You can build your confidence by gaining credits towards qualifications from Entry level to Level 1. Foundation Learning also provides the move up to level 2 qualifications.

How do I know it is for me?

Young people who are suitable for FL programme:

  • may have had difficulties learning in the past
  • are not sure where to progress to in the future
  • may just need help in basic skills

or

  • may need guidance on what career they should move into.

What’s it like?

The HALS Foundation Learning programme will combine learning pathways like Retail, Business and Customer Service with functional skills English, Maths and ICT. There will also be qualifications in Personal and Social Development that will include topics such as preparing for work and financial skills, independent living and citizenship. Foundation learning will include some of the following qualifications:

  • Functional Skills (English, Maths and ICT) at Entry 2, 3 and level 1
