Family Learning Courses

Are you a parent or carer of a child in a Haringey school?

Family Learning courses are free and designed to help you develop the skills and confidence necessary to support your children's learning and develop your own literacy/numeracy and language skills.

These courses help parents and carers understand the jargon used in education and tell you more about school life and the national literacy and numeracy strategies. On family literacy and family numeracy courses parents and carers can become directly involved in their children learning through working together in a structured session using a range of different resources. The courses are fun and will involve you more in your children's education.

You can also gain a national qualification and get advice from our Employment and Learning Advisers about progressing to other courses and possible options if you want to return to work.

All Family Learning courses are free and there are free creche places on most courses. Courses in schools are open first to the parents/carers of children at the school. English Assessments for Citizenship Applications

New Home Office regulations require that any one who wants to become a British citizen must speak English to “Entry 3” level or above.

If you do not already hold a qualification in English, we can assess your language level.

The test is in speaking and listening to English and is conducted by a qualified teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages.

It takes up to half an hour.  No preparation is necessary.

The test is graded after your appointment, and if your English is at the required level, we provide a letter, which you can use in your application to be naturalised.

If your English is not yet at “Entry 3” level, we will advise you about the ESOL courses available.

FEE £25 (Refundable if you join a HALS ESOL course)

Tel 0208 485 8781 for more details and an appointment.
