ICT Courses in Community Venues

As well as offering computer courses at our Wood Green Learning Centre, HALS is committed to delivering a wide range of learning opportunities at other community venues. The courses can be purely for enjoyment but can also give you skills and ideas for new areas of employment. We offer tasters and courses leading to qualifications in local schools, libraries, community centres and purpose built learning centres. These include:

Our range of computing courses is expanding and currently includes:

European Computer Driving Licence ECDL

The ECDL is a European wide qualification for users of computers. It consists of seven units, each of which covers a different area of computer use. In order to achieve this qualification it is necessary to pass all seven units.

  1. Theory and knowledge
  2. Windows and Windows Explorer
  3. Word processing (Word)
  4. Spreadsheets (Excel)
  5. Database Access)
  6. Presentation (Powerpoint)
  7. Email (Outlook) and Internet.

Internet and Email

This course is aimed at those who would like to learn how to surf the net and send emails.

Word, Spreadsheets and Database tasters

These courses will focus specifically on using Word, Excel or Access. You will develop your skills in your chosen area for work or home.

Introduction to Web Design

This course will enable learners to acquire the skills necessary to develop their own website. See also design for print and Web.

ICT for ESOL (English for speakers of other languages)

This course aims to build confidence in using computers for ESOL learners. It covers an introduction to computing, word processing, Internet and email.

Parents/Carers ICT

This course is designed for parents and carers who wish to develop confidence in using computers and help their children.

Advanced ICT

This course will teach learners to use database and spreadsheets packages and will enable learners to work towards a CLAIT certificate.
